Yesterday I got some feedback from people in my class about my story I am going to work on for the blog. It was really nice to see points of view other than my own to show me how to tweak some of my writing and make me a better author. I worked on fixing the little errors I made, while also adding 430 words to my story. In the comments I received, the suggestions mainly revolved around adding more description. So, as well as working on lengthening my story and spell checking it, I made sure to add more detail. Since it is the first day, I’m going to start easy on myself and gradually get to more and more words per day. I want to get more into detail about my recurring dilemma when creating a story, because most of the writers I have talked to seem to have the same problem. So, fear not, you are not the only one having a constant struggle to finish your story, poem, song, etc. My main problem-ehem, excuse me-one of our main problems is finishing a story. I get an idea in my head for a story and vigorously type on the keys until everything is out on paper, and then I take a break until the next day. Writing tends to come and go in spurts of creativity and when there is no spurt, people think there is no sense in trying to continue a story. But there is! It may be hard though to slide something into the middle of your story due to the fact that it is much more exciting to write the beginning or end of a story. For me, I think of an idea and jot it down, I come up with the end, and then I’m stuck with the middle. That’s when I give up on the story completely and start a new one, which makes a deathly cycle. The middle is my (and I’m sure many others) issue. But by doing this 2 week challenge, I’m not going to give up and start a new story. I’m going to finish this one and figure out how to not make the middle annoy me so much. I am worried about procrastinating on my work. This piece is really important to me because I have been having a lot of writer’s block lately, and it has gotten me through my struggles. I am also worried that due to the lack of time I have to work on this, my story will slowly get worse. But, I’m ready to persevere, get my game face on, and work through it to finish a story. So far, I feel very accomplished even though I got a measly 430 words into my story. It was nice to get a page done in a day, it really helped push me to write and get my thoughts out. Usually school projects tend to stress me out. Even though there is a due date to this assignment, I don’t feel stressed. I’m genuinely excited to work on this project and expand my ability to write! 🙂
