Hello again! I’m back from six days of working on my story. Last week started out easy, after my homework I began vigorously typing. But, as the week lagged on, I found out I had an exam in Spanish that Friday. I struggled a lot between studying on Quizlet and attempting to finish a couple pages in my book. From last Tuesday to Sunday, I finished three pages. It doesn’t sound like a lot but I’m glad I got at least three pages out of the way. This week I’m going to push myself to write more. Luckily I don’t have any exams this week which is a big relief.
I find that the shows I watch interlink with my writing most of the time. I mostly work on dystopian or apocalyptic stories because those strike my creativity the most. One show I highly recommend to authors out there who have in interest in writing science fiction is “The 100”. This show has given me numerous ideas to add to my story. The main basis is that a huge nuclear explosion erupted on Earth and killed millions of people. Fortunately a ship was able to take off into space and save a couple hundred humans. One problem that started to occur aboard the spaceship was limited space. So, the council decided to send 100 teenagers onto the ground to see if Earth was habitable. I don’t want to spoil anything but let me tell you, it does get interesting. It sort of resembles “Lord of the Flies” by showing how an atmosphere can affect a person. So again, if you prefer creating Science Fiction novels and have been having some bad writers block, this show can really help you ease through it. I’m just going to warn you, the show is kind of gory so if you have a problem with blood, I suggest you chose another show.
One thing this show has taught me is to not be afraid of throwing in plot twists. I’m usually afraid to make sudden plot twists but they make books some much more interesting! When we did the anonymous peer response (I will keep confidentiality in mind), I read someone’s work and I was immensly impressed by the sudden plot twist at the end. It made me crazy to not know what happened to the characters. This week I’m going to play around with plot twists and use the information I’ve been given to guide me through it.
I have found writing for a week straight starts to get really difficult. Starting out in the week I had multiple ideas on how to end my story, but as the week came to a close, it was hard to slide something in to make the character’s world less balanced. One tip for figuring out what to write, is writing what happens from start to finish on a sheet of paper, along with character names/descriptions. I still need to work on writing down my train of thought more often when I write stories. This tip has definitely helped me survive essays and timed writes but when it comes to writing I am more flexible. It seems every time I write it down, I either start a new story, or don’t follow through with my plans. If you have any suggestions or tips on breaking writer’s block, I would love love, love to hear them! Any tips will help this two week challenge go by in a flash and leave me with an amazing story! Thank you 🙂
(Also, I will be adding my story as the last entry to show how far I’ve come even though I am deathly afraid of sharing my work-sorry to the person who is assigned to work with me tomorrow :P)
